Skin Care Q & A

What is skin care?

Dr. Anderson recognizes the role good skin care plays in both physical and emotional health, and offers exceptional skin care at her functional medicine practice. When coming in for skin care, she conducts a personalized evaluation and develops a treatment plan that allows you to put your best face forward, whether your concerns are related to a specific skin condition or the effects of aging.

What is Jan Marini Skin Research?

Jan Marini Skin Research® is a research-based line of skin care products that is only prescribed by physicians like Dr. Anderson. The line of skin care products has improved skin health and appearance since 1994, and includes skin cleansers, anti-aging treatments, and regimens for acne.

What skin conditions are treated?

Dr. Anderson treats a number of skin conditions. Some of the most common include:

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that triggers your body to overproduce skin cells, creating red, scaly patches of skin.

Eczema

Eczema is also a chronic skin condition that usually develops during childhood. It causes red and itchy rashes on your skin that can affect your quality of life.

Rosacea

With rosacea, you may look like you’re always blushing because it causes your cheeks or nose to turn red.

Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition that causes various blemishes, including pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads, to develop on your face, back, or chest.

Sun damage

Uneven skin tone is usually a sign of sun damage.

Whether you have a chronic skin condition or aesthetic concerns about the appearance of your skin, Dr. Anderson can help.

How can food allergies and sensitivities affect my skin?

Food allergies and sensitivities often cause skin rashes and hives. Dr. Anderson takes a holistic approach to medicine and looks for the underlying cause of your health issue. If you come in with concerns about a rash, she may recommend testing for food allergies and food sensitivities to determine if your diet is responsible for your skin condition.

What is Botox?

Botox® is a cosmetic injection that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dr. Anderson uses the popular aesthetic treatment to get rid of:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines

She also uses Botox injections as a treatment for chronic migraines.

How does Botox work?

Dr. Anderson carefully injects Botox into the muscles under your skin, which causes your muscles to relax to prevent the folding of your skin that creates lines and wrinkles.

The injections themselves only take a few minutes, and you should be able to go back to your usual activities following your treatment. However, while you can apply makeup following your injections, you want to avoid massaging the treatment area. You may also want to refrain from strenuous activity for at least two hours after your injections.

You should begin to notice an improvement in your look within a few days, with effects lasting up to four months. Once you start to notice your Botox treatments wearing off, Dr. Anderson suggests you come back to the office for another set of injections. Frequent Botox injections may help your results last longer.

What is Juvéderm?

In addition to Botox, Dr. Anderson offers Juvéderm® injections to enhance your natural beauty. Also known as dermal fillers, Juvéderm adds volume in just the right places to smooth out lines, plump up lips, and improve facial contours.

Dr. Anderson offers different Juvéderm products at her practice, including:

Juvéderm Voluma®

Juvéderm Voluma is a dermal filler specifically designed to add volume to your cheeks to help enhance your contours and facial features.

Juvéderm Volbella®

Juvéderm Volbella adds volume to your lips and smooths out your vertical lip lines.

When coming in for Juvéderm fillers, Dr. Anderson carefully creates a treatment plan to give you the aesthetic look you want. She then expertly injects the fillers into very precise areas on your face and massages your skin to move the filler into place.

You should see an improvement in your look immediately following the injections. Like Botox, there’s no downtime following Juvéderm injections and you can go right back to your regular day following treatment. With good care, dermal fillers can keep you looking young and fresh for up to a year.

Dr. Anderson wants you to age gracefully on your terms, which is why she offers Botox and Juvéderm injections. Call the office today to schedule your aesthetic treatments.
